About the Author

Mark Dalrymple, the Advanced Mac OS X instructor at Big Nerd Ranch, has been a Macintosh programmer since 1985 and a professional Unix programmer since 1990.

Mark has experience on the client side and server side, being a veteran of several startups and larger technology operations like AOL and Google. On the back-end, he has been the technical lead for AOLserver, a high-performance web server handling tens of thousands of hits per second on many different Unix platforms (Linux, HP, SGI, Digital Alpha, Solaris). On the client-side, he has worked with native Mac toolkits, helped in the construction of cross-platform toolkits, and currently has code running on millions of Macintosh desktops world-wide.

Mark is principal author of Learn Objective-C on the Macintosh and has been the technical reviewer for many Cocoa and iPhone titles with Apress. He is also the co-founder of CocoaHeads, the international Mac programmer's group, with chapters in 26 countries on five continents.

A Book Worth Adding to your Programming Collection

When I heard there was going to be a revised edition of this book I immediately preordered it. This was well over a year ago, so when it finally came out I was at first disappointed to see many references to out-of-date material. For example the book discusses GCC which has been phased out by Apple in favor of LLVM. Garbage collection it touted as a big new feature, but it has not caught on at all. Finally, the product description says the material is based on MacOS 10.5 and 10.6 (we are at 10.7 currently if you are counting).

Also, it is extremely annoying to be charged a premium for the kindle edition over the printed copy. I guess this isn't the author's fault, but still, not cool Amazon.

Ok, now the good stuff, and the reasons I gave this book 4 stars. This book has a huge amount of really useful information, and it is presented in a form that makes looking stuff up quite easy. My favorite material presented in this book is the coverage of macros, dynamic libraries (the dyld family of functions), memory management, CFRunLoops, and the section on debugging. Although the product description seems to date the book (mentioned above), this is actually not that important. Almost all of the discussion of GCC can be applied to LLVM. While there are many books that cover UNIX programming, there are very few that focus specifically on MacOS. Similarly there are a lot of books that cover high-level Cocoa programming, but few that dig into lower level details. This book does a great job presenting these UNIX'y, lower details from the perspective of a Mac developer.

For the next edition of this book, a couple of things I would like to see:

- Less coverage of the most basic UNIX stuff (i.e basic file IO, socket programming). That stuff has been beaten to death and is the same as it was 30 years ago.
- Dedicate a few pages to Mach ports. This is a fundamental Mac technology yet there is so little information on it.
- Discuss XPC / Sandboxing

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book to fellow Mac developers looking to take the next step from The Big Nerd Ranch's seminal book on Cocoa programming. Don't let the out-of-date references put you off, there is a wealth of information here that is completely applicable and relevant.

Must buy for serious OSX/iOS programmers

I confess to not having finished the entire book (it's huge), but I can already say this book is a keeper from just having read the first 3rd. There is an entire chapter dedicated to the nitty-gritty of blocks which was fantastic. There are many books which give blocks very superficial treatment (usually a page or two at most); this one gives blocks the attention they deserve (especially as they become the mandatory means of accessing certain functionality in the Cocoa API's). Really the only negatives are the lack of some of the newest content (Clang, ARC, etc.), but apparently the author plans to release updates in the future (from reading his response to Darren Minifie's review) so this is less of a concern. You certainly won't feel cheated as the quality content to cost ratio may be the highest of all OSX/iOS books out there. This is a huge book filled with meat (no fluff here), that manages to make you laugh in a delightfully geeky way (some of Dalrymple's variable names cracked me up for example) and deliver solid content with a voice that is informative, entertaining and much more human than a man page or an Apple doc. This isn't one of those obnoxiously written books where attempts at humor diminish it to the point of being borderline childish such as some of the "Head First" or "for dummies" books. The treatment of the subject matter is quite mature but still very approachable. He also has some valuable insights into gotcha's, issues to consider and edge cases that are easy to overlook--which can be worth their weight in gold if you never have to spend days/hours debugging something you knew to avoid.

The biggest editorial criticism I have is that there are code snippets that aren't part of a compilable program, which would have been better as small little programs in main.m. I have found manually keying in examples to be a critical component of self-teaching programming, and when there aren't complete examples to pull from, this becomes impossible. It can be trivial to create your own, but it's much nicer to have self-contained examples that clearly illustrate one particular concept and eliminate the possibility that your example is introducing a flaw or conceptual misunderstanding into it. Kochan is an author who uses this style to great effect. Much of the code in the book is thankfully part of complete programs, but I mention this for consideration in future editions.

"Advanced Mac OS X Programming" is a must buy for anyone who wants to take their coding beyond the first tier of superficial apps.

Great but out of Date

This is an awesome book. I have had each edition. The author doesn't go too in depth on all topics, but goes wide and broad and introduces you to topics you won't find anywhere else, and definitely won't find with this kind of context.

Some topics require a little back reading, but usually contained in the same chapter. It's not a bad thing, some things just require a bit of background to really grok, and he generally gives you just enough of it to know if you want to learn more elsewhere.

The title never made sense to me. More of it is "this is how UNIX really meets the Mac and more stuff that is just Mac only and awesome"

It's a tad out of date, but only a little and not so much that you won't still learn a lot and benefit from having this book.

About the Author

Jeff Hardin is Professor and Chair of the Zoology Department at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. His research interests center on how cells migrate and adhere to one another to change the shape of animal embryos. Dr. Hardin’s teaching is enhanced by his extensive use of digital microscopy and his Web-based teaching materials, which are used on many campuses in the United States and other countries. As part of his interest in teaching biology, Dr. Hardin was a founding member of the University of Wisconsin Teaching Academy. He is currently faculty director of the Biology Core Curriculum, a four-semester honors biology sequence for undergraduates. His teaching awards include a Lily Teaching Fellowship and a National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award. He is also on the editorial board of CBE: Life Sciences Education, and is curator of WormClassroom, a digital initiative that promotes the use of C. elegans in college classrooms and laboratories.

Gregory Bertoni has been active in teaching, research, and scientific writing for over 25 years. He earned a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, where his teaching experiences included introductory and graduate-level biochemistry, sophomore cell biology, and plant physiology. He also helped to develop a new course entitled “Ways of Knowing” designed to introduce entering freshmen to the learning process itself. His published research includes studies in bacterial pathogenesis, plant-microbe interactions, and plant gene expression. Dr. Bertoni is a science editor for The Plant Cell, a leading research journal in plant cell and molecular biology. In addition, Dr. Bertoni is a freelance scientific writer who has contributed to text- and web-based projects in biology, physics, and microbiology and currently assists authors in preparing manuscripts for publication.

Lewis J. Kleinsmith is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor Emeritus of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan, where he has served on the faculty since receiving his Ph.D. from Rockefeller University in 1968. His teaching experiences have involved courses in introductory biology, cell biology, and cancer biology, and his research interests have included studies of growth control in cancer cells, the role of protein phosphorylation in eukaryotic gene regulation, and the control of gene expression during development. Among his numerous publications, he is the author of Principles of Cancer Biology as well as several award-winning educational software programs. His honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Henry Russell Award, a Michigan Distinguished Service Award, citations for outstanding teaching from the Michigan Students Association, an NIH Plain Language Award, and a Best Curriculum Innovation Award from the EDUCOM Higher Education Software Awards Competition

Excellent undergraduate cell biology text

I have owned numerous cell biology textbooks, and this series has always been my favorite. This edition, and the 2 earlier editions of this series that I've owned, strikes a perfect balance between technicalities and general information.

One other cell biology text I owned (I suppose graduate level) jumped right into complex material and anyone not already familiar with the basics of cell biology would be completely lost; and it's coverage was extremely technical. Another cell biology text series - of which I owned 2 in the series - had poor diagrams/graphics and was not all that well organized.

"The World of the Cell" series (which recently changed its name to "Becker's World of the Cell") starts the reader off with the basics, progresses slowly and logically, and has very good diagrams/graphics. And while it does discuss technical details, it is not weighed down by them; and the language used is intermediate - they use cell biology terms but don't cram so many into a single sentence that one has to jump back and forth through the text looking up term after term to figure out what a sentence means.

PS: I have both the 7th and 8h editions. I kept notes from the 7th edition and when I look at the same page numbers in the 8th edition, the same noted material is there ... each of the dozen or so pages I checked in the 7th edition maps to the same page in the 8th edition, even up into the page 600's. So if you are not buying this for a class, you might consider buying the 7th edition as it should be cheaper. I don't know what updated information you'd be losing out on, though.

Becker World of the Cell Review

Becker World of the Cell strikes a perfect balance for my Cell biology course. It has basic information for students who are 2-3 years removed from Intro Biology who need to review, yet is challenging to those who are strong in chemistry. Experiments leading to our current knowledge are presented without being overly technical. The references at the ends of chapters ishelful for delving into a bit more depth for those students who want to know more about the experiments. Finally, the questions at the end of the chapters have a nice variety, from recall to analytically challenging.

Many of my students also take biochemistry. They report this text gives them clarification on some topics inthat course,particularly protein structure, enzymology, and the energetics of membrane transport.

For instructors, my major complaint has to do with the test bank. Most test items are way too elementary. I find it useless.

More indepth than I needed

I got this book for an undergraduate Mol & Cell Bio course. It's more in depth than we needed for the class but perfect for reference. I have taken a few biochemistry courses in previous semesters and therefore expected this to have less Math and equations, but I wasn't disappointed. For some reason more mathematical equations help me better visualize the material, probably because I'm a Computer Science major with a biology minor who is more interested in Bioinformatics. Therefore we have equations for calculating Gibb's free energy, and equilibrium reactions (Keq). The book is pretty heavy in biochemistry, but not as heavy as an actual Biochemistry course. I love the Chapter on new lab techniques and Biotechnology (Ch 18), and was happy to see information related to Bioinformatics.

Waste of money

The solutions in this book are EXACTLY THE SAME as the selected solutions in the back of the text. Neither are really helpful for checking answers either. Only a few answers are actually provided. What good is an abundant number of practice problems if you can't check your answers?

It's OK for the money. Not the very best for a novice.

The book is ok. And many people who already know Illustrator might like it. The price is certainly better than that of other Illustrator manuals.

However, for those who have never used Illustrator, this is not the best choice. The authors often say something like "from the artboard panel menu, choose rearrange artboards" - while no images or explanations are provided where the artboard panel menu is (which is just an icon!). Also, very little explanation is given as to what artboard is and why the user needs to learn something about it.

My Go-To Illustrator reference: HOW TO EVALUATE THIS BOOK

I don't know why I even look at other software books any more. The Visual QuickStart Guide series is what I always buy. This one is no exception.

The best aspect of this book is the short, heavily-illustrated explanations of tasks you need to accomplish. Most tasks are two page spreads, some are four pages, but they always include photos of exactly what you need to do, and how it looks when you are done. I don't need much more.

Right now I'm doing lots of graphics for video, so Illustrator and Photoshop are open on my computer nearly full time. This book and its companion for Photoshop CS5 are the only two manuals on my desk every day. I don't upgrade to every new version-CS6 has come and gone, and now the Adobe tools are all a monthly fee on Creative Cloud, but CS5 works just great for me (until 2011 I was on CS2).

HOW TO EVALUATE THIS BOOK: click on Quick Look, then Surprise Me, and look at a few pages deep inside the book (ignore the table of contents, index, etc.) Start somewhere after page 75 so you're into the meaty part of the book. If you like the kind of illustrated instructions shown there, buy the book and you'll be happy.

CAUTION: Adobe products are known for being opaque to raw beginners, and Illustrator is no exception. If you are completely mystified about why there are two types of selection arrows (black and white), then you may want to start with a beginner's class, or search for a video introduction that starts at the VERY BEGINNING. Otherwise, you will have to walk slowly through the first couple of chapters of this book very carefully to understand the basics. We've all been there, it's a pain in the backside, but that's what makes Illustrator so, um, lovable.

Necessary for my classes, easy to follow book overall.

Book is alright, purchased it because it is required for two math courses I have to take. Overall pleased with the application portion of the text, I feel like in the business aspect of things it makes a little more sense for me. Questions range from easy to difficult as they should. The back of the book contains answers to odd numbered questions, but does not work through the actual problems (which is a plus because it makes you think and analyze your own answer if you get something wrong). My instructor prefers to use the textbook in class and it seems to compliment his teaching style well. Purchased from Amazon.com, not an individual seller on Amazon.com, so the text came wrapped appropriately and in new condition as advertised.

It's not a hard copy. It was a binder edition. Basically 1000 seperate papers made to be used in a binder.

Don't buy this and expect a hard copy book.

About the Author

Dr. Jim McClave is currently President and CEO of Info Tech, Inc., a statistical consulting and software development firm with an international clientele. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor of Statistics at the University of Florida, where he was a full-time member of the faculty for twenty years.

 

Dr. Terry Sincich obtained his PhD in Statistics from the University of Florida in 1980. He is an Associate Professor in the Information Systems & Decision Sciences Department at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Dr. Sincich is responsible for teaching basic statistics to all undergraduates, as well as advanced statistics to all doctoral candidates, in the College of Business Administration. He has published articles in such journals as the Journal of the American Statistical Association, International Journal of Forecasting, Academy of Management Journal, and the Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. Great book, very similar to the previous published edition, however BEWARE does NOT provide a log in for pearsonmystatlabandmastering.com website so you will have to pay an additional fee for this making the book far more pricey than if you purchase it at your uni bookshop

I feel like I am reading a foreign language despite having a ...

I am currently re-taking statistics after failing it once before. I have to say I am not a fan of this textbook! I find it very difficult to understand; not student friendly, very disorganized. I feel like I am reading a foreign language despite having a wonderful instructor. In my previous statistics class (taken at a different university), we used "Elementary Statistics" by Bluman, which was much easier to follow and user friendly. I don't recommend this textbook at all!!

After Effects Deconstructed

This book won't explain the program in detail, however it WILL get you up to speed with 14 lessons encompassing the most widely-used features of After Effects. The included CD offers lesson files and examples of finished projects-a great way of viewing the result you're aiming for. Everything about the book is well organized and the chapters start off with the basics (such as animating text and shape layers), leading up to the Roto Brush tool and advanced editing techniques.

I went through several of the lessons in order to get a feel for the book's accuracy, learning curve, and program features. I did find a few areas in the book that could have benefitted from an additional diagram or two (e.g. Restore Frame Size from the Render Queue panel was never found, though the book described it, assuming that it was easy enough to find. Not so.)

As someone familiar with many Adobe products, I found that After Effects has a much higher learning curve. I ventured to the web on many occasions in order to search a particular term or file extension being described in the book in order to learn and not blindly follow along.

I would recommend a basic appendix at the end of the book in order to give beginners new to the program a head start. While the book's preface mentions that the book is not meant to replace program documentation, it wouldn't have been too difficult to have added a few pages of useful information.

It Empowers You to say, "I CAN DO THIS!"

I've been enamored with After Effects since 1993 when it's founder, CoSA had it, before it went to Aldus and inevitably Adobe, over a very short period of time. I've studied it; I've even rubbed elbows with some of the planet's foremost After Effects experts but like Premier and Soundbooth, I've never mastered any of them as I have InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and others. Now a deadline is breathing down our necks so we are in crash learning mode for all three apps. We go way back with Classroom in a Book (Photoshop 5, maybe)? As a book series, it has had a few bumps in the road, mostly at the turn of the century, but of late (Creative Suites and beyond), they've been terrific. I've reviewed five Classroom in a Book (CIB) volumes for CS5, so far, in our quest to master the Master Collection. They've all gotten five stars from me (or disallowed fractions there of). December 27, 2010, I published a lengthy review of Premier Pro CS5. It was my favorite, so far. I compose these things as I learn, so I wrote this first paragraph on After Effects (AE) CS5 as I crack it open, later in the same day.

First, now that I have a handle on Premier, the AE interface seems like I'm right at home. AE, like many other Adobe apps, is all about layers. I go back to Photoshop 2.0 and Illustrator before it. As much as I like the way AE has a similar user interface (UI) to Premier, learning about a layers panel, which differs from Adobe apps, which I'm familiar with, is a bit troubling (but that's not the fault of CIB, of course). I mention that with good reason: the first lesson of the book builds my confidence about my AE abilities. I'm on some familiar territory and in some new spaces but CIB makes it all feel doable.

This is one of those CIBs where plenty of consideration has been given to the readers' learning curve. In the second lesson, on basic animation, the learning environment has been optimized with the ample availability of digital assets. This allows the readers to concentrate on the learning tasks, at hand, which are most important. That said, some of the original CIBs inspired us with some great assets to work with. They were clever enough to make us go, "That's SOOO cool. I want to do more." The third lesson on animating text signals the return of those days as do other CS5 CIBs. This is exactly the kind of things we need to do for the projects in front of us, in 2011. So, I not only know how to do it, but the example gets me revved about what the learning experience has empowered me to create.

If you are reading this with some Illustrator and Photoshop know-how, in your back pocket, and wondering if you have the knowledge to master After Effects, lesson 4 makes you feel very much at home. What you already know about pucker, bloat, stars, and gradient fills falls right into place with AE tools.

Not to over-simplify this or go off on a thematic direction which I am discovering, but AE is filled with many principles of not just other Adobe apps, but animation, the AE-way, borrows from other media-rooted metaphors. By way of example, lesson 5 shows how you use AE to animate a multimedia presentation. This is a nice departure from the more broadcast oriented projects. A few weeks ago, we posted to the Online Learning section of our website a PDF on using InDesign to create a series of Flash animations for a multimedia presentation. It's a growing use of these apps. In this lesson, we are introduced to the parent-child relationships which we find in creating Dreamweaver website page hierarchies. If you've ever done big websites, you need not be told more, you know what this CIB volume is talking about. Though using the masking vector shapes also makes me feel at home, this portion of chapter 5 makes me feel like I'm back in some Phil Collins or Peter Gabriel early MTV video. The lesson is great; the sample is a little whacky.

The sixth chapter takes me back to the days of GoLive as it shows us how to duplicate animations with the Pick Whip. But, once again, CIB makes me feel more comfortable with AE as I go through each lesson.This one starts with layered Photoshop files and adds lighting. This is the lesson where we begin to get pretty serious about animation, but its all very doable, though at times I needed a little breathing space.

It's pretty much impossible to be even moderately adept in Fireworks, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop without knowing how to use the pen tool. This volume of CIB teaches you how to use that tool to create a mask and drop in a news clip, add reflection, blend it, 3D light the thing, and vignette the overall image. These are all techniques I am familiar with for still imagery, which I now feel very comfortable to apply in AE.

For CS5, Photoshop borrowed AE's renown puppet tool. Before CS5 I would have struggled to figure this out in AE. Now lesson 8 is a breeze but not boring. In this case we need to animate what we do with this tool, so it makes the chapter very interesting.

I don't come into AE CS5 as a novice. The very first project we did in AE CS5 was for the Online Learning section of our website. Watching Adobe TV demonstrate the Roto Brush tool, a modern day version of Hollywood's tedious rotoscoping, revved our engines to try it. The lesson CIB offers is more challenging than anything we've done, which is exactly what we have come to expect from this series. It's a very full explanation of the possibilities and it brings together much of what we have learned in the previous eight chapters.

The tenth chapter goes into something we had no idea AE did: color correction to footage, plus the application of effects. Once I completed this lesson, I realized that many AE artists need to deliver finished projects. It's not something where they have the luxury of saying, "We'll fix that in Premier."

We have been building 3D objects with many apps, for at least twenty years. The approach AE takes differs from anything else we have worked with and since the end result is animation, we understand why. 3D is not an easy one to teach. CIB makes it seem second nature, even if this is not something with which you have a great deal of familiarity. This CIB author could have stopped with the basic principles but he/she took it a step further to integrate what you just created and taking it out to what could be a finished project. That provides the reader with all the more of a "can do" feeling of accomplishment. However, when we get to the next chapter, 12, CIB takes us further, with the same project, using many of AE's features to make this a truly polished end-result.

Lesson 13 has many pleasant surprises which I did not know AE could do. Some of it's magical: You'll stabilize shaky hand held shots. It takes you into tracking possibilities. There's something little-kid fun about sending the particles from an exploding super nova flying toward the screen. This is one of those CIB chapters where I had to take a break and come up for air. It took me a little while to wrap me head around what Timewarp even was. This isn't CIB's fault or Adobe's. Taking it slow, I eventually figured it out.

The final chapter is the least fun, but of great necessity to understand. It's logically organized, like everything else in the package. It takes you through some well-designed rendering templates for AE. The chapter takes you through a variety of output possibilities and even schools you in pixel aspect ratio correction. It makes me smile since we once had the first three Mac Quadra 700s shipped into Virginia. To render a 3D project which consumed a small portion of a 30 second television commercial would have to start when we closed up of the evening and was sometimes still in progress the next morning!

Tough I feel the book/DVD package could be made better by improving some of the samples to be a bit more inspirational to my creativity, I cannot downgrade it more than one or two tenths of a point. So, I say at worse, it's 4.8 stars, which has to round up to the whole number of 5.

Adobe After Effects CS5 Classroom in a Book is fun. It's educational. And, above all, left me feeling empowered to take on an app which I went into not 100% sure it was something I could master. Now that I've done these lessons, I can say, "I CAN DO THIS!"

About the Author

Marvin Bittinger has been teaching math at the university level for more than thirty-eight years. Since 1968, he has been employed at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, and is now professor emeritus of mathematics education. Professor Bittinger has authored over 190 publications on topics ranging from basic mathematics to algebra and trigonometry to applied calculus. He received his BA in mathematics from Manchester College and his PhD in mathematics education from Purdue University. Special honors include Distinguished Visiting Professor at the United States Air Force Academy and his election to the Manchester College Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1999. His hobbies include hiking in Utah, baseball, golf, and bowling. Professor Bittinger has also had the privilege of speaking at many mathematics conventions, most recently giving a lecture entitled "Baseball and Mathematics." In addition, he also has an interest in philosophy and theology, in particular, apologetics. Professor Bittinger currently lives in Carmel, Indiana, with his wife, Elaine. He has two grown and married sons, Lowell and Chris, and four granddaughters.

 

David Ellenbogen has taught math at the college level for twenty-two years, spending most of that time in the Massachusetts and Vermont community college systems, where he has served on both curriculum and developmental math committees. He has also taught at St. Michael's College and the University of Vermont. Professor Ellenbogen has been active in the Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges since 1985, having served on its Developmental Mathematics Committee and as a delegate, and has been a member of the Mathematical Association of America since 1979. He has authored dozens of publications on topics ranging from prealgebra to calculus and has delivered lectures at numerous conferences on the use of language in mathematics. Professor Ellenbogen received his BA in mathematics from Bates College and his MA in community college mathematics education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. A cofounder of the Colchester Vermont Recycling Program, Professor Ellenbogen has a deep love for the environment and the outdoors, especially in his home state of Vermont. In his spare time, he enjoys playing keyboard in the band Soularium, volunteering as a community mentor, hiking, biking, and skiing. He has two sons, Monroe and Zack.

 

Scott Surgent received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from the University of California–Riverside, and has taught mathematics at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, since 1994. He is an avid sports fan and has authored books on hockey, baseball, and hiking. Scott enjoys hiking and climbing the mountains of the western United States. He was active in search and rescue, including six years as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Central Arizona Mountain Rescue Association (Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office) from 1998 until 2004. Scott and his wife, Beth, live in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Not that a negative review would be helpful but...

I'm pretty sure if you are reading this, purchasing this book isn't really optional for you. That said, the book is decent but a little hard too understand. Some of the examples meant to teach you calculus are ridiculously difficult and sometimes my teacher has a tough time explaining why they did what they did to come up with their answer. Luckily for you, if you have to get this book, they sell a solutions manual for which I give a 5 star review. If you get this, get the solutions manual for sure. You'll find it under "Student Solutions Manual for Calculus and Its Applications".

A Calculus Textbook!

Are you in college for anything other than an art degree, or just really love math? Do you have a ton of money to spend on a textbook when you can get the same information from the free, downloadable powerpoints with the MyMathLab subscription that is inevitably required when you take a college level math class? Then boy is this book for you!

It teaches... wait for it... basic Calculus! Ever wonder what derivatives are for? Does the question of how to accurately find the slope of any point of a non-linear function just burn in your very soul? Then look no further!

Excellent service

This book is excellent. It is easily understood and well written. Not only is this a Calculus book, but it has an excellent Algebra review section. The most impressive part of this order was the shipping. I am a Soldier station in Germany. Some vendors' use this as an excuse to charge more for shipping a package. Not only higher charges but the shipping priorty is slower. Amazon does not do this. The shipping was the best I have ever had. I had the book in my hands threes adys from the time it was ordered.
