Great guide for new and experienced Office for Mac users

Whether you are a new Microsoft Office user or new to Office 2011, Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac Visual Quickstart Guide is an outstanding book to teach you the ins and outs of this definitive suite for the Mac. The book is well organized with excellent illustrations and explanations of key concepts.
The book starts with explaining exactly what is new in each part of the Office Suite and previews what experienced users might want to focus on. The book leaves no stone unturned, covering not just the PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook but includes the esoteric extras such as My Day, Sky Drive and Office Web Apps.
In particular this book handles both beginner and advanced topics. Those users experienced with Office basics can look at the table of contents and quickly jump to the function they are most interested in. Don't know what Sparklines are in 2011? Quickly jump to a great explanation on the subject. While the book is larger than the typical Visual Quickstart guide, the information was very accessible
As an experienced Office user on both the Mac and PC, I found this an invaluable resource to optimize my investment in this new version. The final chapters were golden as they really tied all the programs together and focused on interoperability between them.
Overall this is a great book for anyone using Microsoft Office 2011!
Pros: Covers all aspects of the suite in detail in a manner beginners will understand and advanced users will be able to master

Disappointing.

I skipped updating from Ofc2004 to Ofc2008; I couldn't give up Visual Basic and SL was fine. Now, I have to update to Lion for another program and am updating to Ofc2011. I had previously purchased Quickstart Guides and this one seemed priced right - but I'm disappointed.
THREE IMMEDIATE NEGATIVES:
1. Prior Quickstarts (admittedly photo editing) have glossy paper with color images. This has plain paper with monochrome images - nobody uses b&w monitors anymore; why monochrome instructions? How do "Sparklines" display? (I know, $ .... But I'm disappointed. Blame the publisher, not the author.)
2. Visual Basic. Since Ofc2011 brought back VB I really wanted a handy reference to what changes were made and how. This guide has NOTHING on how to use VB. NOTHING! There is just one paragraph announcing the return - on page 4. (Blame the author here!)
3. Only 30 of the more than 300 Excel Functions are identified --
(Yes, I could have perhaps realized 2&3 weren't covered if I had studied the Table of Contents more....blame me.)
BUT, A POSITIVE:
Generally, for the subjects that are addressed, the guide is well-written, clear, and good enough to keep as a quick reference. I'll probably end up buying a more advanced guide for VB, though....it depends on how good the built-in Help function is in Ofc2011.
CONCLUSION: Good, worthwhile, for beginners, but only OK for more experienced users.
