About the Author
Randy Knight has taught introductory physics for 25 years at Ohio State University and California Polytechnic University, where he is currently Professor of Physics and Director of the Minor in Environmental Studies. Randy received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics before joining the faculty at Ohio State University. It was at Ohio State, under the mentorship of Professor Leonard Jossem, that he began to learn about the research in physics education that, many years later, led to Five Easy Lessons: Strategies for Successful Physics Teaching and this book. Randy's research interests are in the field of lasers and spectroscopy. When he's not in the classroom or in front of a computer, you can find Randy hiking, sea kayaking, playing the piano, or spending time with his wife Sally and their seven cats.

This unfortunate volume contains solutions to only a few ... of the odd-numbered problems. Quite frustrating when your answer doesn't agree with the back of the book (which, thankfully has at least the answers to all the odd problems) and you can't see what you did wrong. As others have mentioned, it does not address challenge problems and is thus indeed a rip-off.
In its defense, I must say that the explanations it does give are clear and helpful. You just have to hope you're lucky enough to get stuck on a problem that happens to be in there.

includes more than half of the odd-numbered problems?

This is a complete ripoff. The money-grabbing publishers want over $40 dollars for the solutions manual to ONE FOURTH of the problems in the book. More importantly, NONE OF THE CHALLENGE PROBLEMS ARE INCLUDED, making this an absolutely useless volume. The only reason someone would buy a solutions manual would be for a walk-through of the more difficult problems.

So-so; could have more solutions

I wound up sending this back as I wound up with a copy of the instructor's solution manual. The solutions are thorough and very helpful, but you really need more of them. I think I'm being generous with the stars actually - less than half the solutions are present. Yeah, more than half the odd numbered solutions are provided, but I'd still like to see more.
